Ogden is the second largest city in Riley County with 1300 residents and is located in the southern part of the county and opens the way into the Fort Riley Reservation from the east along Highway 18/114. Just west of Ogden is the restored building which was the First Territorial Capitol of Kansas.
In 1855, this site was called Pawnee City and was the first "Capitol" of Kansas and the first County seat of Riley County. The first Kansas legislature met here in July 2 - 6, in 1855. The slavery issue in Kansas led to a series of claims regarding the legality of the "Territorial Capitol and its Legislature" and the government ordered the closing of Pawnee City, whereas most settlers moved to Ogden.
There are many historic buildings to visit on the Fort Riley Reservation just minutes away from Ogden.
