Lenapah, Oklahoma

Lenapah was formed in 1889 and named for the Delaware Tribe in its own language. Lenapa is the name of the tribe in its native tongue. Delaware is the English translation.

The town was surveyed and platted in 1898 and again in 1902, when lots were sold. Lenepah never really enjoyed the oil boom of Alluwe, Deaware, Nowata or Wann, but did have a population of about 1,000 at one time.

A sign that is a part of the collections of the Lenapah Historical Society reads:
