New Alluwe, Oklahoma

The first town established in the county was the original Alluwe, which was founded by the Delaware Indians in 1869. It was first named Lightning Creek, butthe name was changed on June 27, 1883 to Alluwe. The work "alluwe" is a Delaware word with three meanings - to be brave, something better, and superior.
