Globe, Arizona

We welcome you to Globe-Miami, Arizona, a small mining community just east of Phoenix and north of Tucson. Mining began over 100 years ago when silver was first mined in the area.

A huge ball of silver with many veins was dug up - this ball resembled a globe, and that's how Globe got it's name. Globe was founded in 1876 and incorporated in 1907, and Miami in 1918. Globe is the seat of Gila County.

Globe-Miami is in the foothills of the Pinal Mountains at an elevation of 3,500 feet. There is so much to see in these adjacent communities - historic downtowns, copper mining, Native American culture in the San Carlos Apache Reservation, and an abundance of recreation throughout the Tonto Forest.

Besh-Ba-Gowah Archaeological Park

Besh-Ba-Gowah is an ancient ruin unlike the others. Here you are encouraged to walk within the rooms of this 700 year old pueblo, climb ladders into the upper stories, and see the utensils, pottery and furbishings that were a part of life in pre-Columbian times.

he Independent Order of Oddfellows Globe Lodge No. 6 was chartered in 1885. The brothers in good standing were the managers and other big-shots at the Old Dominion Mine. This restricted membership did not please the Grand Lodge of Arizona, so they nullified the charter of Globe Lodge No. 6

Arizona Edison Building

The exact construction date is unknown, but pictorial references verify this two story brick structure was built between 1905 and 1910. The Edison Electric Company occupied the ground floor and the upstairs was a residence for the company manager and his family.
