This September, the annual Art in the Park returns to historic Marietta Square with loads of creative outdoor fun for the entire family as well as several new features this year like the Artcar Palooza and a 3-D Artist Exhibition. The Chalk Art Competition will also be back for the second year.

Art in the Park takes place Labor Day weekend. This outdoor event boasts plenty of enjoyment for all ages with a large Artist Market, the Children’s Art Alley, famous Painted Pots, historic sites and nearby dining.

For the second year, the event will also feature a Chalk Art Competition. All ages are welcome to participate, as are professional level artists. Participants will have the opportunity to “Chalk it up!” with dynamic chalk art works in randomly selected sidewalk squares. These works will be judged at the end of the day and will remain on display throughout the festival. – interested participants can preregister (contact Emily Ryals, 770-528-1444x16, education@mariettacobbartmuseum.org). The competition is co-sponsored with the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art, and everyone is welcome to compete.

Other new offerings include the Artcar Palooza, a car show with fun, wacky artcars and contraptions plus classic customized, hot rod and low rider vehicles. Folks under the age of 18 can also get into the act with their foot-powered vehicles, bikes, wagons and strollers. There will even be a category for lawn mowers, motorcycles and scooters. This first-time event will be held on Atlanta Street adjacent to the Square and is part of the Art in the Park festival. Vehicle owners interested in participating can contact Michael Leidel for more information: Michael@steemcreative.com.

Art in the Park is also excited to about the addition of a 3-D Artist Exhibition and an Art Supply Round-Up for local non-profits.

Since 2007, the event has been honored as a Southeast Tourism Society Top 20 Event, is ranked 81st in the nation in the Classic and Contemporary Craft Shows by Sunshine Artist Magazine and has also earned awards from the Southeast Festivals and Events Association and the International Festivals and Events Association.

HVargas / Foter It’s no secret to those who hunt pheasant and other upland birds that the successive years of drought in the central part of the United States has hurt bird populations. The forecast for Pheasant Hunting in Kansas was not a “flag waver”.  But be advised that Kansas will still probably rank 3rd
