Construction of the Bickle/Schmidt Sports Complex began in 2010 and completed in the fall of 2011. This brand new facility sits on 120 acres of ground and is located just northwest of Gross Memorial Coliseum on the western edge of Hays at the intersection of Old Hwy 40 and the Hwy 183 by-pass. It is the home of the Fort Hays State University soccer stadium and features some of the best recreational facilities in western Kansas. The complex includes eight (8) baseball/softball fields with 300' fences, bullpens, two (2) concession/restroom facilities, covered spectator seating, playground features and state of the art ball fields and lights. Also, it is home to the Nex-Tech Wireless soccer/football fields which include eight (8) full size soccer/football fields and concession/restroom facility. The sports complex accommodates both youth and adult softball, baseball, soccer and football tournaments in addition it is home to the Hays Recreation Commission youth and adult league games for all outdoor sports.
Right next door is the new state of the art Fort Hays State University soccer stadium which is used by both the FHSU men and women's soccer teams. The FHSU soccer facility features a NCAA regulations lighted field with synthetic turf, seating capacity for 500+, concessions and both men's and women's locker rooms.
Other features include a maintenance facility and two parking lots which accommodate approximately 1,000 vehicles with an additional 550 spaces at FHSU and grass overflow. The facility is easy to access from Interstate 70 and from the south via the 183 bypass. There are two entrances into the complex, one from the east off of the 183 bypass or from the south off of old Hwy 40.
