C.W. Parker Carousel

category : Landmarks
C.W. Parker Carousel This antique carousel is a National Landmark and was built in Abilene by C.W. Parker c. 1901. The carousel is a track-operated machine consisting of 24 hand-carved horses and 4 chariots on a 50 ft. platform. It has its original steam engine and an original Wurlitzer military hand organ. The carousel is not of the type that most people relate to. Because of its age, it predates most of our memories. Instead of being mounted on a pole, the horses are mounted on a rocking mechanism on the platform. It has been placed under a tent-like building on the grounds of the Dickinson County Historical Society Museum.

The Carousel is one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas Customs Winners!!
