Event Details

Special guided tours offered at Oklahoma's only prehistoric Native American archaeological site open to the public. Each tour will be one mile of easy walking and about two hours in duration. Archaeologist and Manager Dennis Peterson will tell about the Mound Center, excavations, and why some mounds line up to solstice and equinox sunsets. Handicap Accessible. Tours at 11am, 2pm, 7pm.

Honey Springs Civil War Battlefield

Honey Springs Battlefield Memorial Park has gained national prestige as being listed on the National Map of Civil War Sites. On July 17, 1863, smoke billowed and cannons roared when nearly 6,000 Confederates were defeated by 3,400 Federals just 3 1/2 miles northeast of Checotah, Oklahoma.
