12Pierce City Arts Festival - Pierce City Arts Festival featuring artists and writers as well as food vendors is set for Saturday, June 12, 2010 in downtown Pierce City, Missouri.

About 30 artists and authors are expected.

The festival will take place on Walnut and Main Streets in downtown Pierce City, Missouri. All entertainment will be on Freda Mae's outdoor patio.

17 - 29 Exercise Program - Arthritis Foundation - The Arthritis Foundation exercise program will be sponsored by the Pierce City Senior Citizens. Classes use gentle activities to help increase overall stamina, flexibility and strength.

Classes will be each Tuesday and Friday 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. A $1 donation is requested. Classes will be taught by qualified instructors including Inez Seaton, Pat Carver or Maura Sparks.

It's that time of year again for area communities to mark their calendars for Howdy Neighbor Days scheduled for Aug. 19 through Aug. 22 in Pierce City.

Once again, J & J Magic Midway Carnival will be providing rides throughout the event. In addition to the carnival, there will be a midway of vendors booths, which will include games and food offerings by community organizations and professional exhibits, along with the Knights of Columbus Beer Garden and Ring-Go.


The festivities will begin with the crowning of the King and Queen and Prince and Princess at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, with the Honeymoons-Over contest to follow from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Directly afterwards, at 8:30 p.m., the second annual Hot Dog Eating contest will commence.


Thursday's events begin at 6 p.m. with performances by Leah K. School of Dance followed by Bluegrass and Gospel music by "Backwoods Cuzins" at 6:30 p.m.


In addition, a group of talented kids who perform in Branson called "United We Stand-Missouri Kids" will be providing entertainment from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Ending the nights entertainment from 9 p.m. to close will be local band Speed Shift.


Friday's events will start with the annual Kids Got Talent contest from 6:30 to 9 p.m., with two age groups of 10 and under and 11 to 16 for performances.


Also on Friday and beginning at 9 p.m. is the annual Howdy Neighbor Day Idol contest, which is open to all ages. After the performances, a panel of judges will select the top 10 who will compete for the $300 grand prize at the finals. The second place winner will receive $200 with $100 going to the person selected as the third place winner. The Idol finals will be held from 6:15 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 22.


Saturday's events begin with local groups and the senior center serving breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. at the Pierce City Senior Center.


The 21st annual Pierce City Car Show will be held in the parking lot of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pierce City. Registration is from 8:30 a.m. to noon with a registration fee of $15. The first 100 to register will receive a dash plaque.


The top 90 vehicles selected and the vehicle owners who receive the most points will receive trophies and awards during an awards ceremony scheduled to begin between 2:30 and 3 p.m. on Saturday.


This year the annual bathtub race will be held at 1 p.m. at the east end of the park, near the Pierce City swimming pool. The road in the park has been paved for the first time, allowing the race to by moved from Elm St. The $25 entry fee and team sign-up for the race is required in advance. Teams may consist of no more than five members, age 13 and up, and the driver must be 16.


Persons can submit their entry by email to ben@howdyneighbordays.com or by calling 417-476-5065 or 417-489-1462. Entries may also be submitted at the Howdy Neighbor Day information booth on Wednesday or Thursday with final sign-ups on Friday, prior to the race.


The Howdy Neighbor Days parade line-up will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, on Gibbs St. with the parade heading down Commercial St. at 3:30 p.m.


The carnival will begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Carnival armbands will be $14 each and patrons can receive $1 off coupons for Wednesday and Thursday, at Town and Country Supermarket as well as at the Howdy Neighbor Day booth.


The finals for the Kids Got Talent contest will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, with prize money presented to the winners in the two competing age groups.


The duck race is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. from the Howdy Neighbor Day bridge to the west in Clear Creek. The winner will take home $500.


The Pie-In-The Face contest will commence at 8 p.m. on Saturday. During the festival, the voting (penny-a-vote) canisters with pictures of the contenders will be at Howdy Neighbor Day booths. An auction to the highest bidder will be held with the winner having the opportunity to throw the pie.


Awards and announcement will be held at 8:30 p.m. The festivities will end after a performance by the Mark Chapman Band at 9 p.m.

21Pierce City Car Show - The Pierce City Car Show has been in place for 21 years. The show averages 100 or more entrants per show. This is an "Open" show and includes all makes, models, and styles of vehicles, as judged by a volunteer panel of Automotive Professionals and Hobbists.

The Pierce City Car Show will be held in St. Mary's Church parking lot (next to Pierce City's "South Park") with plenty of shade, kids games, door prizes within walking distance of Downtown Pierce City. Lunch will be available on site at the show.

Registration starts at 8:30am - noon on Saturday. Cost is $15 the day of the show. The award ceremony will begin approximately 2:30-3 p.m.

28100 Mile Garage Sale - Pierce City, MO will be on the route of the 100-mile garage sale that begins in Ash Grove and continues through Everton, Greenfield, Miller, Mt. Vernon, Pierce City, Monett, Aurora, Marionville, Crane, Galena, Reeds Spring and ends in Branson West.
