Hale Center, Texas

At the center of Hale County, Hale Center resulted from a compromise of two rival villages, Hale City and Epworth, that united in 1893. Buildings from both were moved to the new townsite. Ten large outdoor murals that historically depict life in Hale Center are displayed on buildings throughout the city.

Originally supplying large ranches, Hale Center became the center of intensive farming as irrigation developed in the 20th century. In the county, more than 400,000 irrigated acres produce cotton, grain sorghum, wheat, sunflowers, sugar beets, and table vegetables.
