25 Great Outdoors Youth Jamboree - On Sunday, September 8th, make plans to attend Michigan’s biggest child-focused outdoor-rama at Lake Hudson State Recreation Area in Clayton – The Great Outdoors Youth Jamboree. Kids and their families will be able to participate in any and all facets of outdoor activities and recreation such as shooting sports, birding, and fishing, just to name a few, from 10 am to 5 pm. Over 30 vendors will provide hands-on experiences on stand up paddleboards, building birdhouses, tomahawk throwing and setting up a campsite. This is all being offered for FREE to encourage participation in Michigan’s outstanding outdoor recreation opportunities.

Door prizes will be given out throughout the day and special activities on the stage such as duck calling and raptor education will be taking place. A food vendor will be on-site but you are welcome to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy it at the park. You may also want to bring sunscreen, bug spray and plenty of water as it may take you most of the day to get through everything.

The Great Outdoors Youth Jamboree is brought to you through a collaboration of Pheasants Forever, the Michigan DNR, the Michigan Pheasants Restorative Initiative and Cabela’s. For an event flyer or additional details, please visit: www.michiganpheasantsforever.org/youth. December

29 Owl Prowl at Lake Hudson State Recreation Area - If you've never seen a real owl up close, or for that matter even heard one, then you don't want to miss out on this fascinating nature walk.

Join our naturalist from the Lenawee Birding Club on a 30-45 minute walk along the woods. Owls will be called - listen closely to see if they respond. Hopefully you'll see one up on his perch, wide-eyed and regal as he surveys his woods. After the hike, stick around for s'mores and storytelling around the bonfire.

Meet at the campground. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather, as you will be outside for the duration. Event is held rain or shine. Bring something to drink, a roasting stick if you have one, camp chair, flashlight or miner's cap and a great outdoor nature story to share. No pre-registration is required.
