Clinton Lake Wildlife Area

category : Wildlife Areas
More than 11,000 acres are open to hunting at Clinton. Deer and squirrel thrive in the woodlands. Brushy fencelines, small crop fields, and woodland understory provide excellent habitat for quail, cottontail rabbit, squirrel, and mourning dove. Controlled burning is a management tool used to maintain native grass communities and control brush.

During the fall migration, hunters enjoy good numbers of waterfowl, such as Canada and snow geese, mallard, and teal. A refuge on the upper end of the Wakaruse River helps attract and hold migrating ducks and geese. Be sure to check posted signs for the operational dates of the refuge.

The refuge also attracts many shorebirds and other protected species. Bald eagles have raised eaglets at Clinton in recent years.
