Council Grove Hunting

category : Hunting
The Wildlife and Parks public hunting lands are marked with license-plate sized "Public Hunting" signs. Primary entrances are also marked with large "Wildlife Area" entrance signs.

Council Grove Wildlife Area supports large populations of quail, rabbit, squirrel, and deer. Pheasant, waterfowl, and dove are also present in good numbers. Hunting pressure on the area is heavies during opening weekends. Persons who visit the area later in the season are often rewarded with good bird populations and vary little competition from other hunters.

Waterfowl hunting on Council Grove is generated dependent on fall water levels. When vegetation is flooded, the upper end of the reservoir attracts and holds good numbers of ducks and geese. Waterfowl numbers tend to peak during early fall and good early migrant hunting is common in October and November.

Regulations for hunting on the wildlife area are the same as for private land, and a few additional regulations apply for public areas. Digging pit blinds is prohibited. Blinds must be portable and temporary, or made of natural materials found on the blind site.
