Fishing Derby
- A day of fishing and contests in all age categories. Registration at 6:30 am; event begins at 8 am. Lake Estes is stocked with trout, mostly rainbows, from the Colorado Division of Wildlife (CDOW) the day prior to the event. The Fishing Derby is for all fishermen ages. Approximately 250 - 300 people attend each year. There will be a contest for "largest fish" in four age groups - for one male and one female - with prizes donated by Estes Park merchants. Categories are: ages 9 and under; 10-15 years; 16-59, and 60 and over. A grand prize will be awarded for the biggest catch overall. Annual Wool Market
- The Annual Wool Market offers two exciting days of exhibits, demonstrations, competitions and vendor booths. Sheep dog herding demonstrations and sheep-shearing demonstrations are held four times a day throughout the weekend. An announcer will provide play-by-play explanations of the many herding and sheep-shearing techniques used by these animals and their handlers. One of the most popular attractions is the Children's Tent, where visitors, young and old, are invited to try their hands at rope weaving, spinning and loom weaving. Weavers and spinners will be on hand to teach basics and give visitors a chance to try the techniques for themselves. Sheep, llama, alpaca, cashmere & angora goat competitions, as well as fleece contests are held throughout the weekend. For the shoppers, more than 50 vendor booths will be filled with fleeces, raw fibers, novelty knitting and crocheting yarns, as well as finished coats, scarves, hats, shawls, and fiber-processing equipment. Estes Park Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K/5K race
- The highest paved marathon course in the world and one of the most scenic on a USATF certified course. All four races start and end in Estes Park at the public school complex (elevation 7,550 feet) and take place on paved, certified courses. There is no race-day registration for the marathon or the half marathon. There will be race-day registration for the 10K and 5K races only. The marathon and half-marathon start at 7 am, the 10K takes off at 8 am and the 5K race starts at 9 am. Team Penning
- Team penning is a western equestrian sport that evolved from the common ranch work of separating cattle into pens for branding, doctoring, or transport. Today it is a fast-paced event that gives a team of three riders on horseback from 60 to 90 seconds (depending on the class or the sanctioning of the event) to separate three specifically identified cattle from a herd of 30, and put them into a 16' x 24' pen through a 10' opening, at the opposite end of the arena. Teamwork is the key with all three riders working in harmony to cut out the correct cattle and drive them to the pen while keeping the rest of the herd (sometimes called dirty cattle) back. 8am. Arabian Horse Show
- The Arabian horse has a reputation for intelligence, spirit, and stamina. This breed of horse has a distinctive head shape and high tail carriage. Not only is the Arabian horse is one of the most easily recognizable horse breeds in the world, it is also one of the oldest horse breeds. Archaeological evidence of horses that resemble modern Arabians dates back 4,500 years. Arabian horses were brought from the Middle East by both war and trade, and were used to improve other breeds by adding speed, refinement, endurance, and good bone structure. Hunter Jumper Festival I Horse Show
- Hunter Jumper Horse Shows represent the hunter jumper disciplines while promoting the welfare of the horse and fairness in competition. 8 am. Hunters originally represented the thoroughbreds or part thoroughbreds that were ridden in fox hunts. Competitions involve negotiating fences resembling natural obstacles that might be found in the hunting field. Jumpers can be any breed and any size and are judged on their ability to jump. The competition is based solely on speed, strength and the ability to clear the jump as cleanly as possible. Riders and horses are judged in both competitions.
