Grand Saline, Texas

Grand Saline grew from a primitive salt works facility established in 1845 to what is now the site of one of the largest salt plants in the nation. The salt dome under the city is about 1.5 miles across and some 16,000 feet thick. It could supply the world's need for salt for 20,000 years.

An historical marker in the city details the life of Wiley Post, the famous aviator, who was born in Grand Saline.
