Greenwood Hotel

category : Historic Buildings
Greenwood Hotel This brick building was dedicated in 1884. The original building, 50' x 100', consisted of three stories and a small basement. The addition to the east was built in 1923 and the exterior of the original building received a stucco treatment in 1926, creating a Spanish look. The hotel cafe (Greenwood Cafe) was housed where the Butler County Community College Resource Center is housed today. Some distinguished guests have been cattlemen, a recruiter for Gaza's army, businessmen, and Roger W. Babson (Massachusetts financier and founder of Utopia College-Midwest Institute). Both second and third floors contain one four-room apartment and 24 sleeping rooms. The hotel was used as a bus depot from the mid 1930s to the 1960s.
