17Olathe Police Foundation 4th Annual Benefit Car and Motorcycle Show - The Olathe Police Foundation is hosting its 4th Annual Benenfit Car and Motorcycle Show on Saturday, May 18th. Come onout and joinus as we honor National Police Week. This is a family oriented, fun-filled event with a little something for everyone. Expect car show awards and trophies in a wide variety of classes, GREAT door prizes and a 50/50 drawing. Our show will be in downtown (Original Town) Olathe, Kansas at the corner of Santa Fe (K-150/135th Street) and Chestnut. Show vehicle registration starts at 9:00 am with vehicle judging starting at 1:00 pm. Our show is open to all vehicle types. Classics, antiques, late models, muscle, trucks and motorcycles ae welcome. A special invitation is extended to all vintage Public Safety vehicles. Show vehicle registration is $25. Students with current high school or college id may enter a vehicle for $15. Spectators are certainly welcome and admission is FREE! 30 - 31Annual Olathe Relay For Life - American Cancer Society benefit - Please participate in the luminaria ceremony at 10:00 p.m., Friday. All cancer survivors are invited to take part in the opening ceremonies Friday.

During the luminaria ceremony, luminarias are placed around the track to remember those lost to cancer or honor those involved in the fight against cancer. You can purchase a luminaria even now (or through the event) for $5.

7D.E.A.F. Sunday - Dining for Educational Accessibility for the Future - A Taste of Olathe Restaurants is coming! This annual event, known as D.E.A.F. [Dining for Educational Accessibility for the Future] Sunday, will be held in Olathe, Kansas at the Deaf Cultural Center and the Kansas School for the Deaf campus, noon to 3:00pm.

This event will focus on a sampling of food specialties from 17 Olathe restaurants - including the Kansas School for the Deaf kitchen - entertainment by deaf and hearing performers, music, children's activities, door prizes and a silent auction.

Proceeds from the event will help sponsor literacy projects and programs for children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Two arena shows daily depicting Buffalo Bills 1800s Wild West Show. Western music, western vendors, stagecoach and pony rides. Kids area. Concessions.

Cowboys, Indians, Mountain Men, Mounted Cavalry, Dance Hall gals, stagecoach rides, and lots of critters. Old fashioned rootbeer, kettle corn, fresh roasted peanuts, barbecue and plenty of other vittles. Listen to cowboy music and poetry. Great fun for the whole family. If'n ya don't got cowboy fixin's, spruce up yar duds at one of the old time sutler's tents.

Shop at the gift shop for crafts, Christmas decorations, floral arrangements and wreaths. Eat at the concessions area. Proceeds benefit MidAmerica Nazarene University.

NOTE: 2003 was the final year for auction to include cattle.

9 - 11Olathe Cemetery Tour (Olathe Historic Graveyard Walk) - Visit the graves of some of Olathe's founders and meet the people who rest here as they come alive to tell their stories. You'll meet Kansas Gov. John P. St. John, members of the Mahaffie family, and some folks killed during Quantrill's raid on Olathe. Refreshments.

5WinterFest - Mayor's Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony - First Friday - This annual ceremony and festival features the dedication of area Optimist Clubs that work hard to raise funds for the Mayor's Christmas Tree. Funds raised are donated to local groups who provide important youth services. The tree lighting is highlighted by area choruses and local entertainment, as well as ice sculpture demonstrations and displays. Horse-drawn carrriage rides add to the magic of the evening. Santa Clause makes his appearance with a little help from the Olathe Fire Department.

Evening featuring the lighting of a holiday tree, choirs from Olathe's schools, a variety of local talent and the arrival of Santa Claus. Other attractions include ice sculpting, horse-drawn carriage rides, a visit with Santa and food and drink. Proceeds raised for the Mayor's Christmas Tree Fund from businesses, civic groups and the sale of holiday ornaments go to benefit agencies in our area that address the needs of the less fortunate in our community.

6Mahaffie's Victorian Open House - First Saturday - House decorated for 1860s holidays. Music and refreshments, and 1860s crafters/vendors. Santa and giftshop.

The Mahaffie house will be on the tour of Victorian homes of Olathe on Saturday with special entertainment. Visitors can peek in on the Mahaffie family as they prepare for the busy Christmas holiday season. Both Santa and Father Christmas will be stopping by to greet the children.
