Lewellen, Nebraska

Lewellen Nebraska is the Small Town with a Big Heart!

Lewellen is home of the Ash Hollow Historic District at Ash Hollow State Park. Visit the museum, take a walk on the hiking paths, see the Ash Hollow Cave! A modern visitor center interprets the geological, paleontologic, prehistoric, Native American Indian, military, 19th Century fur trappers, and pioneer history. The Ash Hollow Cave further interprets the geologic history. Windlass Hill was described by emigrants on the Oregon, Mormon, and California Trail as the steepest descent east of the Rockies. Ruts remain from wagons, which descended the hill.

The annual Ash Hollow Pageant depicts the humor and tragedy of the emigrant trails and area history. The Pageant Narrative is based on emigrant and military diaries.

Enjoy year-round fishing, with fishing tournaments held each spring along the North Platte River and Lake McConaughy.

Be sure to drive out to the Historical Lewellen Bridge, known locally as "Fisherman's Bridge". Throughout the spring, summer and fall, after work when the chores are all done, you might find the fishermen lined up all along the bridge reeling in the trophy size walleye, catfish and other native fish.

Participate in the 40k Bike Ride that kicks off the Lewellen Days celebration.

The Garden County Fair and Rodeo are hosted in Lewellen each August.

It's a great place to live, raise a family and retire. Whether you are just visiting, on vacation or moving to Lewellen, you will enjoy the friendly neighbors and old fashioned community values. From the Lewellen Youth Center to the Riverview Assisted Living, the community park, picnic facilities, and free swimming pool, the Volunteers of America Excercise Center, the Ash Hollow Artists Guild or the Lewellen Community Center, there is something for everyone.
