13 - 14 MO0713031e007 - MansfieldLittle House Memories - Mansfield's little theater group was founded over 25 years ago. The Ozark Mountain Players got their start performing old fashioned melodramas, lip-sync shows and plays. The concept of creating a musical based on Laura's life became a reality, after much planning and work by the directors and cast of these early performances. It was a labor of love and this shows in the play, entitled "Little House Memories" that has now become their trademark production.

"Little House Memories" has grown from an original length of four scenes with thirty actors to the current eight scenes and cast of fifty.

This outdoor production takes you on a musical journey through Laura's life, from the time she was a child until she and Almanzo and their daughter, Rose, arrived in Mansfield in 1894. The finale consists of a rousing review of songs from the play.

As you spend the evening under the stars, you will be reminded of scenes from Laura's "Little House" books. You will hear beautiful musical numbers many of them original compositions written especially for "Little House Memories" by local talent. 16 - 19 Laura Ingalls Wilder Festival - The Laura Ingalls Wilder Festival, or "Wilder Days", as it's also called, has been celebrated in Mansfield since 1973. The festival is held on Saturday and includes a wide variety of music, dancing and entertainment, games, good food, arts and crafts booths, contests and parades.

Since our festival is modeled after a less civilized time, you are sure to meet some interesting personalities as you stroll through our town square. You might meet up with Abraham Lincoln or Theodore Roosevelt. Craft booths line the square offering plenty of hand crafted items you can buy. You can bring your lawn chairs and sit in the shade of a tree in the city square, enjoy a good cold sasparilla and listen to the music.

One popular attraction on Friday afternoon is the arrival of an authentic Wagon Train that travels to Mansfield each year and sets up camp. These hardy, modern day "pioneers" have some conveniences that were not available to Pa, Ma, Laura, Mary and Carrie as they journeyed across the prairies, but they still enjoy the good company of their friends and the companionship of their animals on the "trail".

All day Saturday there will be craft booths in the park, concession stands, contests, games and a big parade at 11:00 AM.

We invite you to come and join in on the fun on "Wilder Days" where Laura, Almanzo and Rose once lived.
