McConaughy Camping and Public Use Martin Bay

Probably the most popular area at Lake McConaughy, Martin Bay appeals particularly to anglers, pleasure boaters, water skiers, and sailing enthusiasts. Typical of Lake Mac's north shore, the bay is ringed with clean, fine sand making for a fine swimming beach. Behind the ring of sand, clusters of trees offer welcome refuge from a hot summer sun, plus variety to the sand-water landscape. The area also offers a boat ramp that's usable during part of the low-water season.

Cedar Vue

This newest of Game and Parks Commission facilities at Lake McConaughy features all-weather camping pads, trailer dump station, shower-latrine building, sandy beach, a boat ramp designed for low water, and blacktop roads. Located on the north shore, Cedar Vue is about 15 miles from the dam on Nebr. 92. A daily fee is charged to camp there.

Spring Park/Otter Creek

Spring Park at public access road No. 9 offers some good camping. It's a small, quality area with a mature stand of cottonwoods. Otter Creek is better known as fishermen's headquarters. It has primitive facilities, plenty of shade, and a protected bay for boat mooring near campsites.

Spillway Bay

Lake information is available at the Game and Parks Commission area headquarters here. The area also provides services from concessions to primitive camping. The boat ramp at this area has been lengthened for use during most low-water periods. It serves fishermen interested in walleye along the dam in the spring and on rocky points off the south shore. On occasion, the bay area itself can be productive fishing water.

McConaughy's Winter Activities

Winter sees ice boaters on the lake, and skaters and skiers and backpackers. so its role as a recreation area is pretty much year-round. In fact, this and other southwest reservoirs now commonly have anglers when the first snow flies, with white bass still hitting well in November.
