Melvern Lake Campgrounds

Melvern Lake Campgrounds Six campgrounds are conveniently located around Melvern Lake. The Corps manages five out of the six campgrounds. They are: Outlet, Coeur d' Alene, Arrow Rock, Sun Dance, and Turkey Point Parks. The State of Kansas manages the Eisenhower State Park campground. Campgrounds contain level campsites, many with electrical hookups, picnic tables, and fire rings. Shower buildings, sanitary dump stations, playgrounds, and fish cleaning stations are located in most parks.

CAMPGROUND
SITES

Outlet Park – (Corps of Engineers) The Outlet Park is situated below the dam. It has 150 campsites; 89 full hookup sites, 51 sites with 50 amps service, and 61 sites with water and electric hookups. The campsites surround a 90 acre pond that was closed for renovation in 2002 was catch and release only in 2003 to produce excellent fishing for future camping seasons. The pond is open annually for fishing from April 1 to October 31. Special length and creel limits will apply.

The use of gasoline motors is prohibited in this pond. There is another pond of 27 acres in this area for swimming only along with a reservable shelter, two playgrounds, a softball field, two sand volleyball courts, pay telephones, three miles of pedestrian and/or bicycle trails and a historical suspension bridge. This is our most intensively used park.

Coeur d' Alene Park – (Corps of Engineers) Coeur d' Alene Park is located on the southeast corner of the lake. It has a 60 unit campground including 35 with electric hookups. The park also includes the lake's overlook area, a swimming beach, several playgrounds, two reservable picnic shelters, two nature trails, a picnic area, a pay telephone, a boat ramp, and the Melvern Lake Marina.

Arrow Rock Park - (Corps of Engineers) Located about halfway up the south side of the lake, Arrow Rock is perhaps our most scenic park. There are 45 campsites (19 with electric hookups and 14 with water hookups) in the campground. The picnic area on the central hilltop in the park provides users with an excellent panoramic vista of the lake. There is a shelter in this picnic area that is available on the first-come, first-served basis. there is another small picnic area adjacent to the boat ramp.

Sun Dance Park - (Corps of Engineers) Our free area, Sun Dance Park, is located at the southwest corner of the lake. The campground has 30 gravel camp pads. A picnic area with a shelter is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. In addition, a boat ramp is available for visitors wishing to use the upstream reaches of the lake.

Turkey Point Park - (Corps of Engineers) Turkey Point is located on the north side of the lake Turkey Point Park has 50 camp pads(36 with electric hookups). Turkey Point has a boat ramp, picnic area, the Waterfront Day Use Area, and the Turkey Point Group camp Area. The Group camp can be reserved for $40.00 per night. The area includes a privy, a shelter, a water hydrant, several large gravel pads, and is isolated from the rest of the park, so your group can have its fun and not bother or be bothered by other visitors.

Eisenhower State Park - (State of Kansas) Named for Kansas' most famous native son, Eisenhower State Park lies on the edge of Melvern Reservoir, which offers 6,900 surface acres for boating and fishing. This eastern Flint Hills park also provides 195 electrical campsites and numerous other facilities, and a marina nearby. The adjacent Melvern Wildlife area harbors a variety of wildlife. Hunting is allowed except on the 1,100 waterfowl refuge, which is open to wildlife viewing except during the hunting season, when it is closed to all activity. The park has a swimming beach, horseshoe pits, and playground equipment, and an interpretive nature trail allows visitors to take a one-half-mile self-guided walk. A 22-mile horseback trail follows the south side of the lake. In the summer, a variety of entertainment and educational programs take place, including a Junior Naturalist Program.

Melvern Reservoir offers 6,930 surface acres of water for fishing and boating. Nine lane boat ramps located on each side of the park provide excellent access to the many coves and the dam. A full-service marina is located on the south shore.
