Iraan

With the 1928 discovery of oil, Iraan, Texas exploded into existence of hastily constructed frame buildings and tents. The name, chosen in a contest, combines names of the townsite owners, Ira and Ann Yates.

Alley Oop, comic strip caveman, was created by V.T. Hamlin while he lived in Iraan. Visitors can see Alley Oop and Dinny in gigantic figures in the 7.2-acre park.
