Miami, Texas

The city name, Miami, is an Indian word for sweetheart, which also refers to "Sweetheart of the Plains." Miami originated as a construction camp on the Santa Fe Railroad in 1887, and is the county seat and only town in Roberts County. It is about 80 miles northeast of Amarillo nestled in a cottonwood-tree-lined valley between the hills lining Red Deer Creek.

Miami is the home of the National Cow Calling Contest held the first Saturday of June since 1949. Bed and breakfast facilities are offered in historic buildings. Hunting and fishing is available in surrounding areas.
