Vinton Railroad Depot

The "county seat" style brick and limestone depot was built in 1900 by the Burlington, Cedar Rapids & Northern Railroad.Later it became a part of the Rock Island system.Placed on National Register of Historic Places in 1990 and designated heritage site for Silos & Smokestacks.The interior retains the original locally made pressed tin ceiling, terrazzo tiles and white oak wainscoting. There are many displays of RR memorabilia including time tables, menus,union papers,fare tables,pictures,lunch pails and lanterns. Two model trains also run. Open Thursday evenings 5-7 pm June through September during Farmers Market. Open other times by appointment only.

The Ray House is a three story Queen Anne style house built 1893-4.The entire building,including the attic, was lit by electricity. A motor pumped water from the cistern to a tank in the attic which supplied hot and cold water to all parts of the house, except the "water closets"
