Lake Optima and Area Hunting

In addition to the 7700 acres of hunting provided around Optima Lake, Texas county draws many hunters throughout various seasons for execellent hunting opportunities.

Pheasant - Texas County has the largest pheasant population of any county in the state.

Quail - Many varieties of quail are found in the Oklahoma panhandle. Among these varieties are Bobwhite Quail, the number one game bird in the Sooner State, as well as Blue or Scaled Quail.

Prairie Chicken - Lessor Prairie Chicken and Dove are present in large numbers in the panhandle.

Turkey - Rio Grande Turkeys are another popular gamebird in the Oklahoma panhandle.

Ducks and Geese - Thousands of ducks and geese winter annually in the area. Mallards, pintails, gadwalls, widgeon and teal are found in plentiful numbers.

Deer - White-tail and Mule Deer flourish in the panhandle. Mule Deer are most commonly found in Cimarron County.

Antelope - Pronghorn Antelope are found in the panhandle, mainly in Texas and Cimarron Counties. Special permits for antelope hunting in Cimarron County are issued by drawing.
