Please help promote Smithville Lake, Missouri :

The Kansas City District Corps of Engineers and Clay County Department of Parks welcome you to Smithville Lake. We invite you to use and enjoy the lake, the park areas, and the surrounding public lands.
In 1965 Smithville Lake was authorized as a multipurpose project for flood control, water supply, water quality control, recreation, and fish and wildlife conservation. The lake covers 7,190 surface acres and strectches 18 miles up the Little Platte River Valley from the damsite at Smithville to the City of Plattsburg.
One interesting feature of the lake is its long shoreline. Although it ranks tenth in surface acres among the 18 lakes in the Kansas City District, Smithville ranks third in shoreline miles. This distinction becomes a significant statistic since fish and wildlife are dependent upon the shoreline for their habitat.
The Clay County Parks Department provides 777 campsites surrounding the lake as well as opportunities for boating, sailboating, swimming, golfing, fishing and hunting. The Jerry L. Litten Visitor Center in cooperation with the USCOE offers exhibits and self-guiding kiosks on the history of the area, the dam, wildlife management, cultural resources, and Mr. Litton's life and contributions.
