At 114,000 plus acres, Sam Rayburn is the largest man made lake located totally within the boundaries of the state of Texas. The lake is located deep in the Piney Woods of Southeast Texas, nestled within the Angelina and Sabine National Forest with native flora including orchids, insect-eating plants and scores of animal species. Sam Rayburn Reservoir is nationally renowned for it Large Mouth Bass fishery, hosting numerous tournaments each year. Recreation opportunities include camping, fishing, swimming, boating, and hunting as well as concessions offered by marinas.

Encompassing five counties, (Angelina, Jasper, Nacogdoches, Sabine, and San Augustine), Sam Rayburn at conservation pool level is about 60 miles in length. With nearly 750 miles of shoreline you will find many areas around Sam Rayburn Lake to have a picnic, launch your boat, do some fishing and enjoy the lake. Other things to do in the area other than boating, waterskiing, wakeboarding, swimming, fishing, and camping, are birdwatching, nature hiking, historic tours of the local towns, and scenic drives around the lake.
