Lake Meredith National Recreation Area

Located 30 miles north of Amarillo on Highway 136, contrasting spectacularly with its surroundings on the dry windswept Llano Estacado. The Canadian River has cut and re-cut 200-foot canyons called breaks. Sanford Dam created Lake Meredith on the Canadian River and now fills many of the breaks whose walls are crowned with white dolomite caprock, scenic buttes, pinnacles, and red-brown wind eroded coves. Today, visitors enjoy fishing, water skiing, camping, hiking, hunting, and scuba diving.
