On Saturday, April 25, 2009, more than 500 people pulled trash from the lakes and woods at Kickapoo State Park and cut back walking trails as part of the Great American Clean-Up sponsored locally by Keep Vermilion County Beautiful and WILL. Many businesses donated to the cause, including Carmack Car Capitol in Danville, who provided hot dogs and hamburgers for the volunteers. Hundreds rallied in 2008 to save Kickapoo State Park in Oakwood from closing. Kickapoo State Park is home to a 2800-acre playground that includes mountain biking, camping, hiking, hunting, bird watching, scuba diving, fishing, skating, sledding and picnicking. Kickapoo Park is a great place to spend time with others, alone or as a family. For more information, contact: kranich@illinois.edu
