Wellington, Texas

Wellington is the seat of Collingsworth County, named for the Duke of Wellington. Before 1890 it was one of the estates on Rocking Chair Ranch that was known to Texas cowboys as "Nobility Ranch" because of ownership by British noblemen, the Baron of Tweedmouth (Sir Dudley Coutts Majoribanks) and the Earl of Aberdeen (John Campbell Hamilton Gordon).

Today, Wellington's economy is based on grain elevators, gins, cotton compress, and small manufacturing plants.
