FREE Street Dance - Come to downtown Independence and enjoy great food, music, and dancing! This is a family friendly event, no alcohol allowed. The 100 block of West Myrtle will be blocked off for the evening. Put on your dancing shoes, bring your lawn chairs, and be ready to listen to some great music! Elk County Courthouse
The Elk County Courthouse was built in 1908 after the original county seat center built in 1886 burned. The courthouse is one of a few that have a fireplace in every office.

Teacher of the Plains Grave
Frank Hobbs was the first teacher in Elk County in 1869. In 1933, each student in the county contributed a nickel to build the fence to mark the grave site.
