Roan Mountain

This high ridge along the North Carolina-Tennessee state line, in Pisgah National Forest, stands 6,285 feet at the highest point. Roan Mountain is most famous for its natural gardens of Catawba rhododendrons. Beyond the gardens are spruce-fir forests and treeless grassy balds. The area is perfect for picnicking, hiking and nature study. The Appalachian Trail travels throught the ridgeline of the mountain.
