The Mint Museums encompass one institution with two locations; the Mint Museum of Art is located on the edge of the center city in the Eastover neighborhood just 10 minutes away from the Mint Museum of Craft + Design. Originally serving as a branch of the U.S. Mint, the mint museum of art was North Carolina?s first art museum and is home to collections of American art, pre-Columbian art, historic costumes, contemporary art, ceramics and others. The museum complements its impressive collection with traveling exhibitions such as Encouraging American Genius: Master Paintings from the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and hosts a wide variety of educational programs and outreach activities throughout the year.
