Mount Airy is the home of the world's largest open faced granite quarry. The quarry has been in operation since 1889. Many of Mount Airy's churches, homes and businesses are made of Mount Airy granite.

Andy Griffith fans are in for a real treat when they stay at the Mayberry Motor Inn, located along Highway 52 Bypass. Inn keeper, Alma Venable, shares her Andy Griffith memorabilia collection in Aunt Bea's Room. Ima went to the real estate sale of "Aunt Bea"

Snappy Lunch

Snappy Lunch was mentioned on the Andy Griffith Show and Andy ate here as a young boy. Snappy Lunch is Mount Airy's oldest restaurant, circa 1923. Oprah Winfrey and the Incredible Hulk, Lou Ferrigno have been visitors. The Snappy Lunch was featured in the November 1998 issue of Gourmet.
