Trailside Museum

Located at Fort Robinson State Park at the University of Nebraska State Museum at Trailside, you can view paleontology and geology exhibits on Nebraska's rich fossil history. A 14-foot mammoth skeleton unearthed nearby
rules the displays. See rare fossils from western Nebraska,
including the giant mammoth, fossil rhino and giant tortoise. Participate in special demonstrations, such as
flintknapping (chipping arrowheads), temporary exhibits and art shows. Field trips are available to Toadstool Park and regional tours can be arranged.


Programs:


1868 Lakota Territory Camps -
Discover the Lakota Sioux Territory on a five day expedition in the Black Hills and Pine Ridge area of Wyoming,
Nebraska and South Dakota.


American West and Native American Art Gallery -
Featuring work of local artists and Northern Plains Native Americans - landscapes, wildlife, traditional crafts, and
historic and contemporary American West.


Flint knapping -
Spring (first weekend in June),
Summer (weekend before Labor Day),
Winter (at Lincoln Gem and Mineral Show)


School Programs -
Schools may arrange for scheduled programs or field trips by calling 308-665-2929.



  • Scheduled programs include: geology tours , hands-on fossils, hands-on rocks and minerals, and flintknapping

    (chipping arrowheads).



  • Field trips can be scheduled for: $1.50 per student to Toadstool Park or Pasture 27. Other trips can be arranged.

Admission: Admission is $1.00 for adults and $.25 for children at Fort Robinson. (A park permit is required.)
