category : Historic Buildings
Old Armory The Oklahoma National Guard Armory was built by the WPA in 1936 during President Franklin D. Roosevelt's term and was constructed by local Claremore residents with the sandstone unearthed in Oklahoma. During the 1940's, it was Teen Town after the Friday night football games. During the week, it was used by the National Guard. For some years, the high school held their basketball games there until a new gym was built in 1953. In 1973, the City of Claremore purchased the building for $25,000 as a recreation center.
