A Jack Nicklaus design, the 7,081-yard, par 72 Melrose Course is one of the most awarded golf courses in South Carolina. Fodor's Golf Digest "Places to Play Guide" listed the famed course with its 4 1/2- star rating. Opened in 1987, its links-style design features smaller target greens, a mixture of short and long par 4's (many with risk and reward options), a diversity of par 3's (two with forced carries over water) and par 5's that are all unique and contain everything from waste areas to the Atlantic Ocean itself. Melrose's signature 18th hole flanks the Atlantic; its split fairway offers golfers of all skill levels a menacing challenge with a bevy of Scottish dunes and bunkers in the middle of the fairway. The 18th green sits on a small peninsula that seems to jut right out into the Atlantic and will test the nerves of even the best player.
