Rolling plains and prairies characterize the topography of this East Texas area. Centerville is the county seat of Leon County as a lumber manufacturing and farm marketing center. Nine-tenths of the farm income is from livestock and poultry.
When the Leon County Courthouse burned in 1885, the smoke had scarcely died away before a contract was let to erect a new one.
