An 892-acre barren island with 3.5 miles of pristine beach. Hammocks offers relentless sun, sand, sea, and sky! Backpack and primitive camping, swimming, wildlife viewing and shelling. Surf fishing is a favorite pastime year round but is best in the fall. There are three primitive group campsites available on Bear Island and 14 primitive backpack campsites. No fires are permitted on the Island. Conoeists and kayakers can explore Bear Island and its marsh along a designated canoe trail. Passenger ferry service is $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and children 6-12. Age 5 and younger sail free. Fee for camping is $9.
