Midland, Texas

Home to President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush, Midland residents welcome visitors by sharing the famous friendly West Texas attitude and exceptional climate. Midland is an uncommon blend of cosmopolitan features without the congestion and hustle-bustle of larger cities in an environment attractive to individuals of all ages!

Midland was established in the late 1800s as a water stop for the railroad and became a hub for farming and ranching until oil was discovered in the 1920s. The area, known as the Permian Basin, contains tremendous quantities of natural gas and oil. Farming and ranching were the main sources of income until the discovery of oil in the 1920s when it became headquarters for the vast petroleum industry in the Permian Basin. Today, the city remains active in the oil and gas business.

Midland, Texas offers an interesting collection of six museums, a community theatre, planetarium, symphony/chorale, and a wide assortment of exciting annual events, festivals and entertainment throughout the year. Cheer on the Midland RockHounds, our Oakland A's affiliated Professional AA League baseball team, or your favorite player in the Permian Basin Charity Golf Tournament. Catch fast-paced action at the Midland Polo Club, rodeo events, automotive racetrack and much more!
