Shawnee Town never smelled so good. Or maybe it has, once a year, every year, for over 20 years. Because for over 20 years now, Blues and Barbecue, the Shawnee Great Grillers State Championship has graced the lawns and parking lot of Shawnee Town 1929. And every year the intoxicating smell of smoked meats and barbecue delights continues to draw the crowds and the cooks. 114 teams will compete for prize money and bragging rights. It's a very family oriented atmosphere here and that's why people keep coming back.
Both Friday and Saturday, families filter through the parking lot and Shawnee Town, visiting the pits and food vendors. Friday night, visitors packed the grounds for a concert on the Bandstand which put the "Blues" in "Blues & BBQ.
On Saturday, guests could pay $5 to be the judges in the people's choice pulled pork competition.
