Strip Pits Fishing The Mined Land Wildlife area has some of Kansas’ best fishing areas. A variety of fish to pursue include largemouth bass, rainbow trout, walleye, channel catfish, crappie, bluegill, redear sunfish, spotted bass, wipers, bullhead, and warmouth. Kansas Wildlife and Parks has taken the time to specially managed certain fish species to enhance your fishing enjoyment.

Many of the lakes are steep sided, Anglers wading the shorelines should use caution.

Certain areas may be closed to hunting and fishing periodically. Target shooting, trotlines and setlines are prohibited on all areas.

Do remember that special length and creel limits may be in effect for some fish species. Check the Kansas Fishing Regulations Summary and all posted notices before fishing.

The unique water characteristics of the 28 acre trout lake located within unit 30 allow the trout to survive and grow year-round. It is stocked with rainbow and brown trout. A trout stamp is required for anyone age 16 or older to fish the trout lake.

Do to the clearness of most of the strip pits fishing can be challenging. Typically angler success increases when extra effort is taken in being quiet,
fishing low-light hours and using lighter lines or lower visibility lines.

The lakes are too small for large craft. Since most are sheltered from wind small boats and float tubes work best.
