Dumas

Dumas was named after Louis Dumas, president of the townsite company that founded this seat of Moore County in 1892. Oil was discovered in 1926. In the heart of the nation’s largest grain sorghum producing area, Dumas is the center of one of world’s largest natural gas fields, producer of two-thirds of the nation’s helium.

Recreation areas include eight city parks, the scenic beauty in rugged canyons and the hills of the Canadian River brakes. Nearby Lake Meredith offers fishing, boating, swimming and water skiing.

Texoma (municipal) RV Park with 20 – 25 spaces are free for the first night with electric and water hookups, dump station, and nighttime security patrols. It is located on U.S. 87 west within the city limits.
