16 Island of Lights Fashion Show - This year's Fashion Show will be held on Saturday, April 2, from 11 am to 2 pm, at the Carolina Beach American Legion Post No. 129, 1500 Bridge Barrier Road. Click here for directions.

Fashions featured will be from Island Colors, Linda's Fashions, Southern Charm Boutique and Unique Boutique.

Lunch will be catered by Thyme Savor Catering, and in addition there will be a Silent Auction and Raffle.

Tickets for the event are on sale at the following businesses on Pleasure Island: Linda’s Fashions, Unique Boutique, Island Colors, Southern Charm Boutique, and Blue Water Realty.

The price is a $20 donation and all proceeds from this event support Holiday Events sponsored by the Island of Lights.

29 Annual YMCA Tri Span 10K & 5K - Run the only 3-bridge 10K course on the east coast! You start at 7:00am in the downtown area near the Hilton Hotel, run over the Memorial Bridge and across two more bridges before finishing on Water Street with a 1/3 mile flat and fast run to the finish! You'll also have a short loop down Battleship Road where you'll run in front of the Battleship USS North Carolina and take in the view of downtown Wilmington across the Cape Fear River - very picturesque. There will be extensive coning on the race course so you'll run safe and fast over the bridges. Then you'll have a great time recovering with local watermelon, cantaloupes and cold drinks to cool down with while enjoying the post race activities and awards ceremony at the Cotton Exchange.

The 5K course travels through the downtown area and has some slight rolling hills and a couple of short, steep grades.

2 - 3 Southeastern North Carolina African American Heritage Festival - The Wilmington Journal, the voice and mirror of Wilmington's African American community since 1927, will present the Annual Southeastern North Carolina African American Heritage Festival in conjunction with Urban Promotions. The two-day event will celebrate Wilmington's rich African American culture and history. This year's theme is "Unity In The Community".

The SENC African American Heritage Festival kicks off on Friday evening with an invitation only reception for sponsors, elected officials and other guests followed by a night of jazz music and dancing at a local club.

Urban Promotions will kick off the Festival at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday with its Annual Teen Summit event which reaches and mentors hundreds of youth. At noon, center stage will open with a ribbon cutting and pouring of libations ceremony. Thousands will enjoy live entertainment provided by national recording artists and local talent, have the opportunities to win prizes, buy food and merchandise from vendors and receive information from exhibitors. The Kid's Pavilion will have activities for children, storytelling, magicians, clowns and much more. One radio stations will have remote broadcasts from the site.

On Sunday, the SENC African American Heritage Festival will begin at 2:00 p.m. with regional and local gospel acts, children groups and others performing, along with a second day of the Kid's Pavilion and vendor area. For the first time, the Festival will hold a "Battle of the Choirs" competition between gospel choirs from surrounding areas.

The Wilmington Journal will distribute a special Festival Events Guide with a schedule of events, vendor location map and historic information.
