North Central, New Mexico


An excellent choice for a sightseeing adventure within the North Central Region is the Enchanted Circle, an 86-mile scenic-driving tour that connects several picturesque towns around and through the highest Rock Mountain peaks in New Mexico. Just one of the many beautiful landmarks you'll glimpse along the drive is Wheeler Peak, New Mexico's tallest mountain, which towers 13,161 feet neat Taos Ski Valley.
Several other ski areas in the region also offer exciting adventures. Excellent powdery trails await you at Ski Santa Fe, Angel Fire Resort Ski and Snowboard Area, Enchanted Forest Cross-Country Ski Center, Red River Ski Area, Pajarito Ski Mountain near Los Alamos and Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort between Penasco and Taos.
Opportunities for outdoor activities abound, including many lakes for fishing, boating, swimming and more. The upper reaches of the Rio Grande enter the state from Colorado and rafters and kayakers are treated to exhilarating fun every spring runoff with whitewater rapids crashing through the Taos Box and beyond.
