Cave Run Lake Campgrounds The U.S. Forest Service has several campgrounds in the vicinity of Cave Run Lake. These campgrounds include the highly developed campgrounds within Twin Knobs and Zilpo Recreation Areas, the semi-improved Clear Creek Campground, the primitive Clay Lick (Boat-In) Campground and the White Sulphur Horse Camp. For additional information about these campgrounds, visit the U.S. Forest Service Camping on the Cumberland District web site. For a backcountry camping experience, primitive camping is permitted within the Daniel Boone National Forest. However, campers must set up campsites at least 300 feet away from water's edge, roads and trails except at designated camping sites.

Twin Knobs and Zilpo Campgrounds: The Twin Knobs and Zilpo Campgrounds are scheduled to be open from March 17th through October 31st. The beaches at Twin Knobs and Zilpo are scheduled to be open from May 19th through September 5th. However, high lake levels could delay beach openings or close the beaches for periods during open season. The normal beach hours of operation are from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Twin Knobs and Zilpo Campground Fees:

» Single Campsite (6 persons and two vehicles/units): $16.00/day (each additional vehicle - $6.00 per night).
» Double Campsite (12 persons and four vehicles/units): $24.00/day.
» Hookup Fees (in addition to basic site fees): $5.00/day for each RV using electric. $7.00/day for each RV using sewer, water and electric hookups.
» Beach and Day Use Fees (Note: these fees do not apply to registered campers): Fees at the Twin Knobs and Zilpo Beaches and Visitor Day Use Fees: $5.00 per car load (More than five persons in a vehicle pay an additional $1.00 per person). An entrance fee of $1.00 per person will be charged for commercial vans, buses and persons entering on foot or bicycle. Annual passes for the beach can be purchased for $40.00.

Reservations: Reservations at the Twin Knobs or Zilpo Campgrounds can be made by calling (877) 444-6777 or over the Internet at the National Recreation Reservation Service site. There is an $9.00 (non-refundable) reservation fee. Reservations can be made up to 240 days in advance, but no less than five days in advance.

Clear Creek Campground: Open from April 14th through November 27th. Fees are $10.00/day for a single site and $14.00/day for a double site.

Claylick (Boat-in) Campground: Open year round, except during high water events. There is an $10.00/day camping fee from May 5th through October 3rd.

White Sulphur Horse Camp: Open year round. NOTE: Camping with horses ONLY.
» Camping with Horse Fee: $10.00 per vehicle per night.
» White Sulphur Day Use Fee: $5.00 per vehicle.
