Clermont County Courthouse

category : Historic Courthouses
Clermont County Courthouse Batavia became the third county seat of government on February 24, 1824 . Ezekiel Dimmit built the first courthouse on the NE corner of Main and Market streets in 1827. The second courthouse was built on the same site and was dedicated on December 19, 1936. Visit the historic Clermont County Courthouse in the heart of downtown Batavia. This stunning Art Deco building is a local landmark and offers a glimpse into the area's rich architectural heritage.

In 1998, additional courtrooms were added to the courthouse to accommodate the county's rapid growth and is located to the east of and is connected to the old courthouse.

The building addition was designed in Greek Revival style and contains a central pediment supported by Tuscan columns with brick bases. The pediment contains an elliptical window. A drum rises from the roofline and is topped by a clock tower capped by a dome. The original entrance to the 1936 Courthouse was transformed into a stained glass window commemorating the history of Clermont County in images of its townships, villages, and cities.
