The Gaston County Museum of Art & History, located on the Dallas Court Square--part of a National Register of Historic Places District--celebrates 25 years of service to the community this year, Visitors to the c. 1852 main building are invited to tour elegantly furnished period rooms; a Hands on Parlor and furnished historic hotel rooms on the third floor; and changing exhibits which explore art, history, and historic preservation. North Carolina's largest public collection of horse drawn vehicles is located in the Daniel Stowe Carriage House at the south of the museum grounds. Gaston County Museum is the future home of The Ties that Bind, Carolinas Textile Exhibit which opens in 2001.The museum is a department of Gaston County, and is governed by a not for profit Board of Trustees. Gaston County Museum is accredited by the American Association of Museums.Gaston County Museum is open Tuesday - Friday 10AM - 5PM; Saturday 1 - 5; and the 4th Sunday of each month 2 - 5PM. Works of art, books, locally produced crafts, and historic reproductions are for sale at the Museum Store. Gaston County Museum is wheelchair and stroller accessible.
