SunWatch Indian Village/Archaeological Park

category : Archaeology
SunWatch Indian Village/Archaeological Park is an archaeological site and reconstructed Fort Ancient American Indian village that was inhabited almost 800 years ago. The on-site Interpretive Center offers an introductory film on the history and archaeological investigations at the site that led to the preservation and nomination of this site as a National Historic Landmark. The museum includes dioramas and displays of the archaeology and reconstruction of the site as well as collections of the artifacts discovered.

Within the village feel free to browse through several houses and a surrounding stockade that have been reconstructed in the exact locations where archaeologists discovered evidence of these structures from the 13th century habitation of the site. Also, experience our restored native garden and prairie lands.

SunWatch also offers many unique programs for schools, scouts and home school groups. We have a wide selection of books on archaeology, American Indian cultures and crafts, and a unique selection of American Indian arts and crafts in our gift shop such as Pueblo Pottery, Navajo Rugs, dreamcatchers, and beaded, turquoise and silver jewelry.
