Table Rock is filled with a wealth of history. A one-of-a-kind group of seven individual museums incorporated in the downtown district capture and preserve the rich heritage of the community.
100-year-old St. John's Catholic Church - Built in 1877, this little frame church is one of the oldest in Nebraska, and exhibits stained glass windows and many sacred relics. It is likely that it is only one of its kind with continuous hand- painted wall murals.Table Rock Argus - The newspaper office was established in 1882. This museum houses working Linotype machines and an original Miehle press built in 1885. The office is a classic example of newspaper printing before the advent of computers.The Old Opera House - Built in 1893, the old opera house has been preserved in its original state. Relics and antiques are on display including potbellied stoves, the old post office, an antique bedroom, kitchen, and parlor. The original balcony and stairway are also fully intact. Small opera houses were a significant form of entertainment in pioneer villages.The Pioneer Museum - The pioneer museum contains a replica of the bluffs and Indian Ceremonial Grounds at the table rock from which the town took its name. Other symbolic rocks and legendary Indian stories are on display. The 17,000 square feet of museum space houses many artifacts of pioneer life.Maple Grove Schoolhouse - The schoolhouse was moved to the museum site in 1965. It is furnished with fixtures, books, and equipment from abandoned area schools, making it a symbol of one-room schools that once served surrounding communities.Turner Log Cabin - The cabin was originally built in 1854 southeast of Dubois and was reassembled log-by-log on the museum site in 1969. The cabin is furnished to reflect the pioneer era.
